Inspection and Degradation Management of Concrete Structures in the Nuclear Industry
Concrete structures have been identified as potentially critical structures for plant operation beyond 60 years. The approach to life cycle management for concrete structure varies from plant to plant and operational issues are treated episodically by vendors and utilities.
Scope and Objective
Life extension and life cycle management are among key objectives of nuclear power plants. Extension of safe operation of nuclear power plants beyond their original design life and operating license is critical to ensure continuous availability of the electric power infrastructure in many countries. Concrete structures have been identified as potentially critical structures for plant operation beyond 60 years. The approach to life cycle management for concrete structure varies from plant to plant and operational issues are treated episodically by vendors. Moving forward, a generally accepted system for lifetime management of concrete structure is necessary.
The objective of this MAI Workshop is to provide information on state of the knowledge and ongoing R&D programs addressing the following concrete issues:
- Aging and long-term operation including modeling and infrastructure management of nuclear power plants.
- State of the art in inspection and monitoring of concrete structures
The scope of this workshop will cover concrete structures such as reactor vessel containment, containment building, cooling tower, spent fuel pool and buried pipes.
The Workshop Flyer and the tentative program are available for downloaded.
