On June 17, 2010, the MAI building was officially certified in accordance to the French High Environmental Quality standards (HQE), a prestigious label certifying the quality of construction with respect of the environment. This is the first building of EDF Group HQE certified as a new construction. « The building is particularly well insulated, uses innovative technologies such as high performance heat pumps, geothermal wells with vertical CO2 sensors for air management, presence and brightness sensors for lighting and rainwater recovery for toilets, says Gennaro Castagna, EDF engineer in charge of HQE project for the MAI building. These technologies help save 25% of the energy consumption as compared to the legal requirements for new buildings ». Three successive certification audits have taken place since the design of the MAI building project in May 2006. Through this certification, the MAI responds to EDF's desire to pursue a sustainable industrial growth, including energy-efficiency solutions.
